SDHV Systems

Small Duct, High Velocity (SDHV) systems are ideal for installing air conditioning where it has never been installed before. Homes with radiant heat typically have no duct work and are 'hard' to air condition. SDHV systems make what was once hard easier. They utilize conventional outdoor air conditioning units, marrying them to an indoor unit that is capable of blowing cooled air at high velocity through tiny duct work. The result is that ducts can be routed through small spaces. A few small ducts in each room allows for quality conditioning of air without the expense of installing larger duct work, and often without major remodeling.

There are exceptions however. This page shows a more challenging project prior to completion. A two flat was retrofitted with two separate high velocity systems. The small air handlers, one in the basement, and one in an upstairs closet (upstairs closet not yet completed in photo). Variable speed air handlers were installed to minimize noise at startup. Ducts are shown before being boxed (soffited) in by a ceiling that was being lowered to accomodate them. In this case, the two flat had no room for duct work in an attic. Supply outlets are shown before minor patching of 'feeler' holes.

High velocity has benefits of its own, such as elimination of hot and cold spots (even temperatures throughout your room), better dehumidification, and using air pressure to continuously mix the room air.

Our experience designing and installing these systems will help make your project a success.
